Serval Cat History
African Serval cats are the most common small exotic cat kept as pets. They also have one of the best temperaments of all exotic cats. Weighing around 20 - 40 pounds, they are around 2 feet tall.
Serval Cat Maturity
Serval cats reach maturity at 18 months of age although individuals may vary. Males tend to get larger than females. Both sexes will spray once they hit maturity so if kept as a pet they should be fixed ASAP.
Serval Cat Habitat
In Africa Serval cats can be found in savannahs, grasslands, marshes or pretty much any where there are fish, mice and other small mammals. In captivity such as a home Servals do amazing well if they are provided with proper diet, exercise and enrichment. Most Servals are found in rural parts of Africa. Serval cats tend to coexist with humans relatively well which shows in their amazing adaptation to being kept as companions.
Serval Cat Facts
Serval cats can jump straight up as high as 10 feet. They pounce on there prey and paralyse it with a thump to the head. It’s common for a Serval to jump 2 - 12 feet in the air to catch their prey. They are normally very active at night but when in captivity they tend to adapt to their household’s time schedule.
Serval Cat Diet
Wild Servals eat rats, mice, hares, birds, moles, frogs, reptiles and other small mammals. Serval cats are NOT normally seen hunting any animals large than a hare.
